Do you believe your child has a gift, that if nurtured, could change the world in a profound way?
We do too!
Do you believe your child has a gift, that if nurtured, could change the world in a profound way?
We do too!
We believe each child has a gift that can change the world in a profound way. We believe in a closely connected family of lifelong learners. We believe in learning to learn, learning to do, and learning to be. We believe in economic, political and religious freedom.

When it was time for our daughter to start Kindergarten we started exploring local options, only to realize the options where we live are few and far between. We wanted more for her than sitting behind a desk all day, and generalized approaches to math, reading, and writing, based on state testing. Most importantly, we struggled with daily concern about what content is being hidden from parents or being implemented in regard to personal health choices. She started school but we kept searching.
Enter, Acton Academy.
Acton Academy is a private school that focuses on students developing real world skills through quests and projects, lessons of entrepreneurship like how to create a basic profit and loss statement, setting goals and working to achieve them (and sometimes not achieving them which can be an even greater lesson), but most importantly, developing students that have a love for learning that lasts a lifetime. The more we learned about Acton Academy, the more we were convinced we had to bring this opportunity to families in our community!
Acton Academy emphasizes to each student that they are on a hero's journey, and that they have the leading role in their own lives. In every great story, the hero finds a calling, faces adversity, the hero may even fall or fail along the way. But, the hero always finds the courage to continue and prevail in the end.
As parents, the more you learn about Acton Academy, the more you will being to find that you are on a hero's journey of your own. If you are interested in learning more about Acton Academy, we encourage you to read, "Courage to Grow," by Acton Academy Co-founder, Laura Sandefer.

"In an age of Google, where all information is free, memorizing facts just doesn't seem to make sense." Jeff Sandefer, Acton Academy Co-founder. At Acton Academy of Morgantown, we teach kids the value of curiosity and instill a love for learning that is life-long.
Acton students participate in projects and quests that simulate real world events. We want students to explore their gifts and passions now! As students progress into middle school and high school, they take on real apprenticeships so they graduate with a portfolio of experiential work. It is the courage to act and try new things that prepares students for the real world.
"Success is not final; failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts," Winston Churchill. Students study the different aspects of character and how these relate to their own hero's journey. At Acton Academy of Morgantown we believe in failing quickly, cheaply, and often, because this is where we believe some of the best learning takes place.
The greatest rule for guides at Acton Academy is they must never answer questions! Instead, you will hear guides responding with questions and offering choices. This develops students critical thinking skills, encourages them to search for answers on their own, and allows the older students to help as peer mentors. Guides are then free to work with students who need them most.
d naStudents set their own SMART goals for what they want to accomplish and are are rewarded not by grades but on their efforts and how they challenge themselves. Through this students learn time management, growth and character. Parents learn to allow their students to struggle in a safe environment because it is through these struggles that students learn critical and necessary life skills.
Acton Academy of Morgantown leverages the best technology available for core skills like reading, writing, and math. Students work at their own pace to develop a mastery knowledge of topics prior to moving on to the next level. This ensures there is no "Swiss cheese" learning or gaps from lack of understanding. Students pick up where they left off the previous day and are free to work on core skills at home if they would like however homework in the traditional sense is not assigned.
